
The Lincoln County community has been rocked by the discovery of a body identified as Robert Wolf Jr., a 53-year-old man who went missing on July 4. According to a statement obtained by WCNC Charlotte, Wolf's family had last seen him at his Lincolnton home and found his pickup truck in a local Food Lion parking lot. The Lincoln County Land Search team later found a deceased man in a wooded area behind the grocery store, with the body tentatively identified as Wolf.
The search that led to the discovery was part of a collaborative effort between the Lincolnton Police Department and the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, as WHKY reports, initially, the Lincolnton Police handling the case on July 16 requested assistance, with the search efforts culminating in the tragic find. The investigation into Wolf's death is ongoing, and while the body was located outside Lincolnton city limits the jurisdiction for the case now falls under the purview of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
Lincoln County Sheriff's Office confirmed the tentative identification in a release, and WSOCTV disclosed the body was found in a location frequently visited by Wolf, behind the Food Lion on Stanford Road. A positive identification is still pending, even as the community awaits answers to the many questions surrounding his disappearance and death.
