Long Beach has been rocked by two separate shootings, as the Long Beach Police Department investigates the violent incidents that occurred on consecutive nights. According to the LBPD's official release, the first shooting happened near 10th Street and Cerritos Avenue on July 1, 2025, shortly after 10:00 p.m. A man was wounded during what began as a verbal altercation that quickly turned into a gunshot confrontation. The victim, struck in the upper body, was immediately tended to by the Long Beach Fire Department and transported to a nearby hospital.
The second incident, a shooting at 68th Street and Long Beach Boulevard, was reported in the early hours of July 2. Having received a report of a man with a gunshot wound to the upper body, officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded. The victim was discovered by deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department near Artesia Boulevard and the 710 freeway, and was also taken to a hospital after Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded.
Investigations into both shootings are currently underway, with motives and suspect information still in the process of being ascertained. As for the first shooting, "the victim and a male adult suspect were in a verbal altercation, which escalated when the suspect shot the victim," as disclosed in the LBPD's blotter update. Following the incident, the suspect fled the scene before police could arrive.
The circumstances surrounding the second shooting are less clear. Officers arrived to find a scene without evidence of the crime, and as of now, no suspect details or motive for the shooting have been disclosed. "The victim was in the area of 68th Street and Long Beach Boulevard when the shooting occurred," the LBPD stated, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the investigation into both of these violent events.
The LBPD has encouraged anyone with information to come forward as they continue piecing together the events that led to these violent acts. Hospitals have not released the current conditions of the victims.
