Residents of Madison Heights are facing a wave of water main breaks, with city crews responding to a series of malfunctions over the past few days. According to an update from FOX 2 Detroit, the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) experienced an equipment failure at their pump station, triggering an abrupt surge in water pressure and leading to multiple ruptures across the city.
Following the chaos that ensued on Friday night, crews have been dispatched to address the breaks, and as of 11 p.m. Friday, locations including 905 Sprague were being worked on. Further compounding the situation was the addition of new breaks at sites like John R & Rowland and behind the Irish Tavern, reported by the City of Madison Heights official site. The series of issues began earlier this week with 10 initial breaks due to an earlier equipment malfunction at the same GLWA pump station.
City officials have communicated plans to notify residents and business owners impacted by the incidents. They will be informed door-to-door about water shutoffs as repairs are carried out. City authorities have advised that those experiencing brown or discolored water should "run the cold water tap until the water runs clear." In a statement provided by FOX 2 Detroit, city officials expressed their dedication to swiftly restoring normal service.
