A multi-vehicle accident involving three cars occurred on the 405 Freeway near the Brentwood area in West Los Angeles, causing serious injuries and major traffic disruptions in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The crash was reported at approximately 2 a.m. on the southbound freeway near the Getty Center exit. A semi-truck, a white utility truck, and a gray Jeep were involved in the collision, resulting in at least three hospitalizations, FOX LA reported.

California Highway Patrol's incident log detailed that the crash occurred around 2:15 a.m., near West Sunset Boulevard, with the southbound lanes of the freeway near the Getty Center Drive ramp remaining closed until 5 a.m. Commuters faced heavy delays as two left lanes and the Getty Center Drive ramp were shut down, causing traffic to build up through the Sepulveda Pass. According to KTLA, the closure was expected to persist until around 7:20 a.m.

The severity of the injuries was further clarified by officials who commented that a 59-year-old man and a 34-year-old man were in serious condition. Furthermore, a third victim, identified as a 53-year-old man, suffered a traumatic injury resulting in the loss of a limb. NBC Los Angeles stated the conditions of the victims were serious but did not release further details at the time of the report.

The aftermath of the crash saw all southbound lanes being temporarily closed, a common measure following such incidents to allow emergency crews to respond and investigators to assess the crash site. The freeway lanes were reopened by 8:30 a.m., as per a statement from ABC7. This incident marks yet another serious accident on this stretch of freeway following the death of LAPD Sergeant Shiou Deng, who was struck and killed on June 23 while attempting to render aid at a previous traffic collision.

As the investigation continues, officials have not yet determined the cause of this latest crash on the 405.
