
A Fourth of July gathering in Hillsborough turned violent yesterday when a man was shot during an altercation. According to CBS17, the incident occurred just before 1 a.m. at a residence in the 500 block of Riddle Avenue, where approximately 25 people were celebrating Independence Day. The victim, a 33-year-old man, was found with a gunshot wound to his leg inside the home.
Upon arrival, officers found a man with a gunshot wound at the scene. He was transported to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill for treatment. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening, as detailed by law enforcement officials in a news release obtained by ABC11.
An investigation into the shooting is actively underway, with Chapelboro reporting that the Hillsborough Police Department is "pursuing all leads in this case." Preliminary findings from the police indicate the shooting came shortly after a verbal altercation between the man and another individual. Efforts to determine the sequence of events leading to the shooting are ongoing, and authorities are working to identify all parties involved.
