Manchester residents were faced with an unfolding domestic violence incident this past Monday, leading to the arrest of a 21-year-old man. According to a social media post by Manchester NH Police, officers responded to a call from Morgan Street where they learned that D’Montae Vilgrain had strangled and assaulted a victim in her home. Despite the severity of the accusations, Vilgrain had fled the scene by the time the authorities arrived, only to resurface hours later at a same address, setting the stage for a standoff with law enforcement.
It wasn't until officers were called back to the Morgan Street location later that day, around 4:30 PM, that the situation escalated. The returning officers encountered a reticent Vilgrain who refused to heed their loud verbal commands to exit the apartment. The reluctance resulted in a deployment of SWAT officers and a police K9 unit. Eventually, entry was made, and the Police K9 found Vilgrain in a third-floor crawl space where he received dog bites during his apprehension. The litany of charges placed against him includes Second Degree Assault – Domestic Violence, Strangulation – Domestic Violence, among others.
Following his capture, Vilgrain faced multiple charges as a result of his actions. As reported by the Manchester Police, he is charged with "Second Degree Assault – Domestic Violence, Strangulation – Domestic Violence, three counts of Simple Assault, Simple Assault – Physical Contact, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Mischief, and Breach of Bail."
