Marshfield, Massachusetts, a town typically admired for its tranquility and close-knit community, is grappling with a disturbing incident. A woman, on her way home on Ocean Street on Saturday night, was approached by an older man who emerged from an old, white pickup truck with no license plates. According to CBS News Boston, the man made several comments to the woman, insisting that "you should come with me" before attempting to pull her by the wrist.
In a statement obtained by Boston 25 News, the woman detailed how she managed to defend herself, breaking free from the assailant's grip and knocking him to the ground before he scrammed in the vehicle. The suspect has been described as a "skinny, white male" in his 60s, approximately 6 feet tall, sporting dark hair in "a mullet style," and notably missing some teeth.
Mansfield police officer Camden Bruno told CBS News Boston, "Anybody should be able to walk to the store and back home without being approached and certainly assaulted, so naturally when these things take place, we take them very seriously." The community, known for its safety and strong sense of neighborhood watch, expresses shock and concern over the brazen nature of the assault. Andrew Maina, the owner of Airport’s Pizzeria, relayed his surprise stating, "It was very shocking especially for a community like this where everyone knows each other, one of the most safest communities, best police department."
Fears have been stirred among residents, with one Marshfield visitor, Payton Maloney, confessing to CBS News Boston, "Definitely won't be walking around with my little sister at night like I usually do." Maloney, familiar with the area since a young age, found the attack unsettling in a place she deemed previously safe. Police are actively canvassing the area, in search of surveillance video that may shed light on the identity of the suspect and the accomplice driver, and are asking anyone with information to call the Marshfield Police at 781-834-6655 ext. 1100.
