The Matthews Police Department detailed this incident in a social media post, reporting that on Monday, around 7:02 p.m., they were informed that a man had taken his girlfriend against her will after assaulting her. The suspect, identified as Mr. Montroy Izal Mabry, is known to have a handgun.

Matthews police officers were quick to respond to the situation, trying to locate the vehicle on E. Independence Blvd. and Windsor Square Drive. The officers did manage to spot a vehicle fitting the description but the driver, now believed to certainly be Mabry, refused to stop. After a short chase, he entered a parking lot, colliding with a police vehicle before fleeing on foot into the woods behind a business. Despite an extensive search by Matthews officers and additional support from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Mabry wasn't apprehended.

The female victim was subsequently taken to the hospital for medical treatment and has since been released. The Matthews Police Department has extended their gratitude towards the CMPD for their assistance during the search operation. With the suspect still at large, arrest warrants have been issued by the Mecklenburg County Magistrate’s Office on multiple charges including first-degree kidnapping, felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm by felon, and misdemeanor resisting a public officer.

In addition to the aforementioned charges, Mabry is also wanted on numerous other charges in different counties across North Carolina. These include possession of a firearm by a felon, felony probation violation, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, driving while license revoked, flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, felony possession of marijuana, discharge weapon into an occupied property in Pitt County, and speeding in Perquimans County. The public has been urged by police to call 911 with any information regarding Mabry's whereabouts and to not try to approach or make contact with him.
