The County of Maui Committee on the Status of Women will hold community roundtables on Friday to discuss issues affecting women’s health. The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. in Room 102 of the Laulima Building at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College. Women, families, health care providers, and advocates are encouraged to attend and share their experiences, especially about off-island care and the maternity care system in Maui County, according to the County of Maui.
The Committee on the Status of Women is holding roundtable discussions to gather input on issues related to obstetric emergencies that require transport to Oʻahu. The discussions will focus on two main areas: the use of trauma-informed care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, and the logistics and support available for families who must temporarily relocate for medical services. Information collected will be used to develop recommendations for the Mayor, Maui County Council, and the State Commission on the Status of Women, as reported by the County of Maui.
The Committee on the Status of Women is inviting the public to take part in discussions on important healthcare topics. They are especially interested in hearing from individuals who have experienced challenges in getting medical care off-island. Input shared during the roundtable will help shape future policy recommendations. For more information or to share your thoughts, email [email protected], as stated by the County of Maui.
