The latest weather forecast from the National Weather Service in Memphis predicts a mix of blazing heat and sporadic thunderstorms for the region in the coming days. With humidity levels high, residents can expect a muggy stretch, making outdoor conditions somewhat uncomfortable.
Today's outlook includes a 30 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms, primarily hitting in the midafternoon window. "Mostly sunny, with a high near 92. Heat index values as high as 103," according to the NWS, Memphis. While temperatures will dip slightly tonight, they’re not offering much in the way of relief; lows are expected to hover around 73 degrees with a negligible chance of showers.
Over the weekend, the heat will tighten its grip. Saturday's forecast mentions a high of 95 degrees, and the heat index could surge to 105. The pattern of sunny skies and scattered thunderstorms continues into Sunday, particularly after 1 pm, when there's a 50 percent chance of rain.
As we head into early next week, the pop-up storms are likely to persevere, with a 40 percent chance of showers on Monday afternoon. "Mostly sunny, with a high near 93," promises the sky, with a lull only in the dead of night when partly cloudy conditions settle and lows inch back to a steady 74 degrees, as per the National Weather Service.
Rising temperatures aren’t planning on bowing out anytime soon, with Tuesday and Wednesday's highs fluttering near the mid-90s. It's not until Thursday that a slight break may occur, featuring a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms offering a brief respite from the persistent heat. However, even then, the high is forecasted to be near 96 degrees, maintaining the theme of a hot and sticky week for Memphis.
