Peeler's capture relates to a July 4th incident where MPD officers, responding to a disturbance near Peabody Place and Rufus Thomas Boulevard, were shot at from a passing vehicle. While no injuries were reported, the situation indicated the dangers officers routinely face. The MPD diligently utilized Downtown Command Center surveillance footage to identify Peeler as the alleged shooter. Consequently, he is facing charges that include twelve counts of Criminal Attempt First Degree Murder and Reckless Endangerment.
As per the Memphis Police Department, Chief C.J. Davis condemned the reckless actions that put law enforcement and civilians at risk. "This individual showed a complete disregard for human life and the safety of our officers and community," Davis said. The MPD credited their partnership with the U.S. Marshals for ensuring Peeler's apprehension, emphasizing the significance of such collaborations for maintaining public safety and working towards a "Stronger, Safer Memphis."
