Memphis-based rapper Gloria Woods, known professionally as GloRilla, was arrested in Forsyth County, Georgia, on drug charges after law enforcement officials were summoned to her residence in response to a burglary. As reported by WREG, GloRilla was facing charges of felony possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance, but was released on a $22,260 bond.
The events unfolded when deputies arrived at the rapper's home last Saturday following a reported burglary. However, an altercation ensued, and someone inside the house fired at the suspects, who ultimately fled the scene. According to Action News 5, the deputies detected an odor consistent with illegal narcotics, which led to a search warrant and the discovery of marijuana in a bedroom closet. Meanwhile, GloRilla was in Indianapolis attending the WNBA All-Star Game, and as per her attorneys' statement, the law enforcement prioritized her arrest over pursuing the burglars.
GloRilla's legal team released a statement strongly criticizing the focus of the law enforcement officers. "The arrest of Gloria Woods is a disturbing window into how warped law enforcement priorities have become. Ms. Woods is a victim, not a suspect. This is our tax dollars at work, absolutely unbelievable," the statement said, as relayed by US Weekly. The lawyer's sentiment echoed across the board in each statement obtained by the press.
Despite these legal challenges, the "Yeah Glo" performer's schedule appears to remain unaffected, with her headlining a show at FedExForum in Memphis only a day after her release on bond. This concert experience, titled Glo Bash, is still set to occur according to a social media post from FedExForum. The recent incident marks GloRilla's second run-in with Georgia law enforcement in just over a year, following a DUI arrest in April 2024. GloRilla has contributed to Memphis schools, with the Melrose High School library bearing her name as a testament to her involvement in the community.
