Mesa Councilmember Julie Spilsbury has been appointed to the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Regional Council's new Community Initiatives Coordinating Committee (CICC), representing the East Valley for a three-year term until June 2028. The CICC, established in April 2025, is tasked with guiding regional planning and the coordination of human service initiatives throughout Maricopa County, as reported by Mesa Now.
The committee comprises 21 members from diverse backgrounds, including local and tribal governments, human service organizations, faith-based groups, and the private sector. The group's mandate involves setting strategic priorities for regional initiatives, mobilizing and managing action teams, as well as bringing together experts to provide technical assistance. "I'm honored to represent Mesa and the East Valley on the Community Initiatives Coordinating Committee," Spilsbury stated, as per Mesa Now. "Our region faces complex challenges, and I look forward to working with partners across the Valley to strengthen our community and support Arizona families."
Councilmember Spilsbury isn't new to leadership roles, with a background serving on multiple boards and committees across various sectors. Her involvement includes her roles on the boards of Azura, the IDEA Museum, Children's Action Alliance, and MesaCAN, while also participating in Mesa's Public Safety Committee, chairing the Community & Cultural Development Committee, and serving as vice chair of Mesa's Education & Workforce Development Roundtable. Nationally, Spilsbury represents Mesa on two National League of Cities committees: the Youth, Education, and Families (YEF) Council and the Finance, Administration, and Intergovernmental Relations (FAIR) Federal Advocacy Committee.
