The City of Mesa has awarded nearly $100,000 in grants to community organizations through the Mesa Youth Climate Action Fund (MYCAF), according to a report by MesaNow. Supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, the initiative promotes youth-led climate solutions in the community.
In the latest round of funding from the Mesa Youth Climate Action Fund, Mayor Mark Freeman highlighted the participation of young community members. “Our young people are the future of our community, and it's exciting to see so many take advantage of this outstanding opportunity to put their ideas into action,” Freeman said in a MesaNow release. A total of eighteen projects, focused on areas such as heat mitigation and waste reduction, are scheduled for completion by October 31.
Approved projects include efforts to reduce the environmental impact of a local coffee shop, create cooler rest areas at a high school, expand gardening initiatives such as a butterfly sanctuary, and host a workshop on zero-waste business practices. Additional initiatives include a university-led water conservation program and a high school project promoting circular fashion. All projects align with Mesa’s ongoing Climate Action Plan.
The Mesa Youth Climate Action Fund (MYCAF) is part of the City of Mesa’s broader climate initiatives. Supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, the program aims to build community resilience, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and address the impacts of climate change. It is designed to engage young people in local environmental efforts.
