Jose Reyes Zamora-De La Torre, a 33-year-old Mexican national, has been handed a 14-month federal prison sentence for the illegal reentry into the United States after prior removal, U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester confirmed. Public records reveal that after his last removal to Mexico on May 31, 2024, Zamora-De La Torre was discovered within U.S. borders on January 16. Arrested on multiple warrants related to state charges in Oklahoma County District Court for assault and battery upon a police officer, public intoxication, obstruction, and malicious injury to property, Zamora-De La Torre was subsequently convicted of these crimes.
With a guilty plea entered on April 4, Zamora-De La Torre admitted to knowingly reentering the U.S. without authorization, the Justice Department reported. During the sentencing on July 22, U.S. District Judge David L. Russell pointed out that the sentence was a reflection of Zamora-De La Torre's criminal conduct engaged while being in the country illegally.
This case stems from an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bow Bottomly prosecuted the case, which forms part of Operation Take Back America. This initiative, the Justice Department explained, is a nationwide attempt to counter illegal immigration, dismantle cartels, and protect communities from violent crime. It was not immediately made clear how long Zamora-De La Torre had been in the U.S. before being arrested on the initial state charges.
