The Michigan State Police have been busy as they swooped down on multiple Oak Park businesses accused of dealing in counterfeit luxury goods. According to ClickOnDetroit, the businesses located at Greenfield Plaza, 21700 Greenfield in Oak Park, came under scrutiny after tips pointed to at least six stores selling fake high-end merchandise. Undercover detectives, conducting their due diligence, were able to not only identify but also purchase counterfeit items, confirming the suspicions laid out in the tips.
Yesterday, the crackdown culminated in search warrants, leading to the seizure of illicit goods. "Often these counterfeit items contain harmful chemicals that can endanger their health," Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said, per ClickOnDetroit. He cautioned consumers against deals that appear overly inviting, hinting that legitimacy in commerce is not only a legal matter but a health concern as well.
Parallel information came via a social media post from MSP Second District, located on their page, noting that the warranted searches are part of a larger fraud investigation. While the post reassured there was no immediate danger to the public, the presence of law enforcement would be notably increased, and shopping plans in the area might best be delayed.
