In a significant drug raid, Michigan State Police reportedly confiscated over $10 million worth of illegally grown marijuana from a former factory site in Baldwin. According to ClickOnDetroit, the operation took place halfway between Grand Rapids and Traverse City and involved the seizure of more than 13,400 plants and hundreds of pounds of dried cannabis.

The extensive 17,000-square-foot facility, situated on a substantial 19-acre lot, was raided yesterday, leading to multiple arrests. Police indicated that none of the individuals involved held a license to grow marijuana, suggesting a large-scale illegal grow operation. "Detectives with the Michigan State Police (MSP) Marijuana & Tobacco Investigation Section (MTIS) executed a search warrant today at a former manufacturing facility in Baldwin, Webber Twp., Lake County on an illicit marijuana grow operation," stated a social media post by MSP Sixth District.

Authorities have raised concerns about the potential health risks associated with cannabis produced in illegal operations. These products are often laced with substances that can be detrimental to consumers, including hazardous chemicals, mold, and heavy metals. An alert was issued, emphasizing that such products are likely to contain harmful contaminants.

The Michigan State Police have estimated the street value of the confiscated plants to be in excess of $10 million. The MSP Sixth District commended the "exceptional investigative work that led to the safe dismantling of a high-value illicit grow operation." Following the completion of the investigation, the case is expected to be referred to the Michigan Attorney General for review and the possible filing of additional criminal charges.
