Early this morning, a Zaxby's restaurant located in Midtown, Memphis, experienced a fire, which was initially spotted by the business owner upon their arrival to open the store a little after 6 a.m. According to reports from the Memphis Fire Department (MFD), obtained by Action News 5, smoke was discovered inside the building, with the fryer identified as the source of the fire.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at the establishment on 2240 Union Avenue and found that the fire had extended behind a wall. Firefighters "acted quickly to access and extinguish the hidden fire, preventing further damage," said the MFD, as noted by FOX13 Memphis. The gas supply to the fryer was promptly shut off by the store's owner, which aided in suppressing the flames.
The Memphis Fire Department has confirmed that no injuries have occurred as a result of the incident and that the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials are looking into the precise events that led to the outbreak of the fire.
