A Midwest City man has been handed a hefty prison sentence for a series of violent actions that involved illegal possession of a firearm, according to formal statements from the U.S. Attorney's Office. Mark Ryan Jordan, 38, previously convicted of felonious offenses, will now serve 120 months in federal prison, U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester announced.
On October 28, 2024, an episode of road rage catalyzed the eventual arrest of Jordan, who was reported to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office for aggressive behavior that included following, yelling, and tailgating a woman and her juvenile daughter. In a turn of frightening escalation, he brandished a firearm at their vehicle at a gas station. Later the same day, Jordan's behavior intensified as he supposedly stole a shotgun, and threatened a shootout with law enforcement, detailing knowledge shared by the LCSO.
Further incidents included Jordan firing a shot into a bedroom window of a Midwest City residence and attempting to locate the homeowner at a relative's house, where Midwest City Police Department officers apprehended him. Upon his arrest, authorities discovered a 12-gauge shotgun along with live and spent ammunition in his vehicle, which evidence corroborated the claims against him.
Preceding these 2024 offenses, Jordan had a criminal history that included domestic abuse by strangulation, and domestic abuse – assault and battery, with convictions in the Oklahoma County District Court. The U.S. District Judge Scott L. Palk, during the sentencing on July 22, expressed concern over Jordan's "escalating violence" and emphasized the importance of public safety when announcing the decade-long sentence, as mentioned on the U.S. Attorney's Office website.
Jordan's charges came as a result of a federal Grand Jury indictment from December 17, 2024, where he was convicted of felon in possession of a firearm after admitting his guilt on March 28. The case was successfully prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacquelyn M. Hutzell, drawing upon investigative efforts from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Midwest City Police Department.
This conviction aligns with broader initiatives like "Operation 922" and "Operation 'Shots Fired,'" which are local implementations of Project Safe Neighborhoods— a Department of Justice enterprise dedicated to curtailing gun-related violence and enforcing firearm laws. Both operations specifically target individuals connected to domestic violence and those who discharge firearms during criminal acts.
