A Milwaukee boy, aged 7, was recently kidnapped, sparking a multi-individual investigation ending with several impending prosecutions. The child, identified as Jamal White, was abducted at gunpoint on July 11, near 61st and Hustis, and found unharmed the next day in an apartment. A second person has now been charged in this grave incident.
38-year-old Fabian Johnson has been charged with one felony count of kidnapping as a party to a crime, WTMJ reports. Home camera footage illustrated Johnson "going back to the truck wearing a black durag, black t-shirt, black pants and black shoes." Notably, the authorities found a red solo cup in a white Jeep implicated in the crime — the same red solo cup Johnson was to have been seen holding while switching vehicles shortly before the kidnapping.
Alongside Johnson, 25-year-old Corey Williams has also been charged with felony kidnapping, revealed to have harbored White in his apartment post-abduction. Additionally, as Fox6 News notes, the mother of the boy is reported to be a well-known drug dealer, which led to the initial plan of robbing her. When they could not locate the mother, the 14-year-old, who was also taken into custody, suggested to target Jamal's father instead.
According to an interview with Milwaukee Police Department detectives obtained by the Journal Sentinel, both Johnson and the unnamed minor wore masks and were armed. Upon arriving at Jamal's father's residence and not finding the mother, the group decided to to brazenly abduct the boy instead. "Williams noted in the interview that Jamal's father was also outside at that time," the Journal Sentinel added, painting a chilling picture of the boldness of the crime.
Johnson's bond has been set at $200,000 with the caveat that, if convicted, he could face up to 40 years in prison. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday, July 24, which could bring further details of this harrowing event to light.
