Starting Thursday, Missouri commuters will see new changes along Interstate 70 at the Foristell interchange. Construction crews are set to install a barrier wall on the shoulders of both eastbound and westbound lanes, part of the ongoing Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project. This project aims to construct new bridges and pave the way for an additional third lane on I-70 to alleviate the heavy traffic flow and growing transportation demands of the state, as detailed in a report from MoDOT.
Despite the extensive construction work, the dimensions of the travel lanes will not be altered, maintaining the standard 12-foot lane width to ensure minimal disruption for daily drivers, the construction is tentatively scheduled to span from 2025 to 2028 and the Reduce speed zone is essential for the safety of the workers and the traveling public while the speed limit in this area will be dropped to 60 miles per hour, motorists are advised to remain vigilant and patient as they navigate the construction zone.
This barrier wall construction signals the beginning phase of the state's commitment, detailed in Missouri's FY2024 budget, to significantly upgrade one of its vital transit arteries. With a $2.8 billion General Revenue allocation signed into law by the governor, the ambitious plan will focus on the expansion of I-70, stretching nearly 200 miles from Blue Springs to Wentzville. The improvements not only reflect a surge in transport needs but stand as a testament to the state's dedication to advancing its infrastructure.
As Missouri embarks on this transformative venture, it is clear that the project is more than just adding concrete and steel along the highway; it represents a forward thrust toward economic growth, smoother trade, and commutes, and, ultimately, a quality-of-life upgrade for Missouri residents the Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville project was awarded in November 2024 and stands as a vital component of Missouri's broader transportation enhancement strategy.
