The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has disclosed an updated traffic control plan for Interstate 215 (I-215), focusing on a stretch of nearly four miles between the I-15 interchange and Windmill Lane, as part of an ongoing pavement preservation project. The comprehensive effort involves milling and paving the highway, applying a polymer overlay, conducting structural repairs, and enhancing traffic signals, lighting, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Furthermore, improvements are in the pipeline to make the route more accessible for people with disabilities according to the NDOT's official announcement.

In the midst of the project, travelers are being advised of marathon weekend work and nightly ramp closures. Between Sunday, July 20, and Thursday, July 24, westbound I-215 will be reduced to two lanes from Windmill Lane to I-15, and down to one lane during the darker hours of 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Sharing the details, NDOT has highlighted that these restrictions are part of a strategy aimed at minimizing the traffic disruptions and successfully preparing the concrete underlay for paving, though motorists are likely to face significant delays.

Throughout the duration of the construction, scheduled to be completed by winter 2025, assuming the weather and field conditions cooperate, drivers may have to find alternate routes around the impacted segments. During the initial Marathon Work Weekend from July 18 at 7:00 p.m. until July 20 at 10:00 a.m., eastbound I-215 is slated to be narrowed down to two lanes between I-15 and Windmill Lane. The following Marathon Work Weekend will see similar constraints placed on westbound I-215 from July 31 at 7:00 p.m. to August 2 at 10:00 a.m., as the road again reduces to two lanes from Windmill Lane to I-215.

NDOT is teaming up with Waze to keep the public posted on planned highway restrictions, thereby encouraging drivers to navigate cautiously through work zones and consider detours if possible.
