The New York Jets have signed veteran kicker Nick Folk, returning to the team where he spent seven seasons from 2010 to 2016. Folk, 40, was signed today. During his previous tenure, Folk earned the nickname "Folk Hero" for making important field goals, including during the 2010 playoff run. According to The New York Post, he missed only one field-goal attempt in each of the last two seasons with Tennessee, going 21-for-22 last year and 29-for-30 in 2023. His signing follows performances from younger kickers during the Jets' training camp.

Head coach Aaron Glenn told NBC New York, "He is a very established kicker in this league." He added, "When you go back and you look at his stats from the last couple of years, man, they’ve been above board. And I’ve said this from the beginning: Anybody that can help us win games, man, we’re going to take a look at that." The Jets waived rookie Caden Davis earlier today.

Folk previously set a franchise record with a 56-yard field goal in 2010, a record since surpassed. He ranks second on the Jets’ all-time scoring list with 729 points, behind Pat Leahy’s 1,470 points. Folk will compete with rookie Harrison Mevis for the starting position. According to NBC New York, the Jets also signed running back Lawrance Toafili and offensive lineman Liam Fornadel, while waiving/injuring center Gus Hartwig due to a knee injury during practice.
