North Carolina Governor Josh Stein has recognized 10 individuals with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the state's prestigious award for dedication and service. The ceremony, held recently, acknowledged a broad array of contributions from various sectors including public safety, governance, and the private sector.
The honorees, as reported by a statement from the Governor's Office, have vastly enriched the tapestry of North Carolina through "lifetimes of service." The select group includes figures from the political sphere such as Alma Adams, a United States Representative, and Jeff Tarte, a former North Carolina State Senator and Mayor of Cornelius. In the same spirit, the list honored Lynn Good, formerly at the helm of Duke Energy, and Bishop Dwayne Walker, who led Little Rock African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.
Distinctly, the ceremony also celebrated the courage and commitment of local heroes – five individuals from the Charlotte Fire Department. Carl Bailey, Jonathan Moore, William Costello, Captain Nathan Jones, and Justin Barringer were all praised for their bravery and selflessness as firefighters saving lives and property. These firefighters represent the steadfast vigilance, that quietly but critically holds society's fabric firm in the face of calamities.
According to Governor Stein's Office, "These North Carolinians represent the best our state has to offer through their lifetimes of service." The affirming nod from the state's highest office not only solidifies their legacy, but serves as a public nod to their unwavering dedication.
