In a bid to put the brakes on excessive speed and aggressive driving, the North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program, in collaboration with state law enforcement agencies, has revved up a campaign titled "Speeding Catches Up With You." According to a statement obtained by NCDOT, the initiative, which runs through July 27, aims to curb the dangers and often fatal consequences of speeding on North Carolina roads.
As part of the weeklong enforcement initiative, law enforcement officers will increase patrols on highways and local roads to target speeding and aggressive driving. Mark Ezzell, director of the Governor’s Highway Safety Program, emphasized the dangers of speeding, citing nearly 400 speed-related fatalities in North Carolina in 2024. The initiative, which runs through July 27, aims to reduce traffic-related injuries and deaths.
As part of the "Speeding Catches Up With You" initiative, the GHSP advises drivers to obey speed limits, allow extra travel time, avoid distractions, drive sober, and always wear seatbelts. These safety measures aim to reduce crashes and save lives on North Carolina roads.
