A Dickinson County man, identified as 24-year-old Trentin McWilliams, has received an 8 to 15 years prison sentence for the sexual assault of two minors, as Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel reported. Originally from Norway, MI, McWilliams had moved to California before being extradited back to Michigan in September 2024 by the U.S. Marshals Service under the auspices of Operation Survivor Justice, a collaborative law enforcement effort.

According to a statement from the Michigan Attorney General's office, McWilliams entered a no contest plea in May to Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct for an incident at a relative's residence in 2018. Additionally, he pleaded guilty to two counts of Third-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct relating to the assault of a 14-year-old girl in a vehicle in October 2022. Following his prison sentence, he is set to be placed under electronic monitoring and will also have to register as a sex offender.

Operation Survivor Justice aims to swiftly and effectively bring to justice those who have evaded charges of sexual assault. Nessel highlighted the significance of the partnership between multiple agencies, which include local county prosecutors and the U.S. Marshals Service. "This Operation Survivor Justice conviction is a powerful example of what this partnership can accomplish,” Nessel stated in the press release. She also emphasized the courage of the individuals who stepped forward to make the conviction possible.

McWilliams’ repatriation to Michigan and subsequent conviction are part of ongoing law enforcement actions related to sexual assault cases. The case is one of several under Operation Survivor Justice, an initiative focused on locating and prosecuting fugitive sexual assault offenders.
