Ready for a little tyke-sized adventure right in the comforts of Oak Hill Park? Starting August 4 through August 8, the city is rolling out a Mini–Adventure Camp, created especially for children between the ages of 4 and 6. It's an initiative to get the little ones outdoors and engaged without the need for a long trek to the far-flung wilderness—or whatever passes for wilderness in these parts.
Operational from 8:30 am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday, each day at the camp promises a different set of activities. From exploring the nooks of Oak Hill Park to getting drenched at the splash pad, the camp doesn't shy from getting those pint-sized sneakers muddied. Add to that the promise of special guests dropping by, crafts, games, and nut-free snacks galore (parents are advised to pack a nut-free lunch), and you've got a recipe for happy campers and perhaps a few moments of peace for the hardworking caregivers.
Fees for the week-long program are pegged at $200 for residents, which seems like a decent deal considering the variety of activities planned, or $212 for those who hail from outside the park's usual stomping grounds. To secure a spot for your adventurer-in-training, make sure to hit the registration deadline, which is 11 days before the start date, or whenever they hit full capacity—and something tells me, places will fill up faster than you can say "summer fun."
Details for the upcoming Mini–Adventure Camp are supposed to be dispatched to participating families the week prior, complete with a detailed schedule so you can prep your kiddo for what's on the horizon. If you're eager for more information or want to sign your child up before the slots dash away, you can do so by visiting the official page. Drop-offs begin at a leisurely 8 am, with pickups no later than 4:30 pm, making it just the right balance for a child's day packed with activity and a parent’s need for scheduling sanity.
