The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is actively seeking information on a hit-and-run crash that tragically ended the life of a 31-year-old bicyclist in Pontiac. The fatal encounter occurred yesterday evening at the intersection of Baldwin and Rundell Avenues, as reported by ClickOnDetroit. The victim, a resident of Pontiac whose name has not yet been released, was struck by a black Jeep Grand Cherokee and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver involved in the incident failed to stop and fled the scene, a decision that has left authorities and the community searching for answers and justice. A witness was able to quickly follow the vehicle onto a side street, where the driver and a passenger abandoned the Jeep and switched to a silver Chevrolet Malibu to make their escape, as per details provided by CBS Detroit. This brazen act has sparked outrage from Sheriff Michael Bouchard who, in a statement obtained by CBS Detroit, declared, "Obviously, basic humanity was not exhibited by leaving an individual to die in the street."
The hunt for the driver is ongoing, with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office appealing to the public for assistance. They urge anyone with information about the driver or the passenger implicated in the fatal crash to come forward. To encourage witnesses to speak up, Crime Stoppers has offered a reward of up to $2,000 for information that could lead to an arrest, ensuring that tipsters' identities will remain anonymous. This information was corroborated by both CBS Detroit and MLive. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
