An off-duty U.S. Border Patrol agent is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after a confrontation with Long Beach police earlier this month. Isaiah Anthony Hodgson, 29, has been charged with three felony counts of resisting an executive officer, one felony count of battery with injury on a peace officer, and several misdemeanor firearm-related counts. These charges stem from a July 7 incident in Shoreline Village, where Hodgson, allegedly intoxicated, was armed with a handgun and engaged in an altercation with police, as reported by FOX LA.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office stated, "The conduct exhibited by Mr. Hodgson, a border patrol agent who has the duty to uphold the law and protect its citizens, is unacceptable and deeply troubling," echoing concerns regarding the behavior of law enforcement members. During the Shoreline Village incident, Hodgson allegedly became agitated and physical, resisting officers' attempts to detain him, and in the process, injuring one of the officers, according to the KTLA report.
The situation that led to Hodgson's charges began inside a restaurant where a woman noticed Hodgson's firearm and magazine. After notifying the restaurant's manager, Hodgson left and was confronted by a security guard in the parking lot. The guard, observing the firearm, asked Hodgson to leave the premises multiple times due to the property's no-firearms policy. Long Beach police were called when Hodgson failed to comply, and they found him to be intoxicated and uncooperative, as detailed in the information provided by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
If convicted on all charges, Hodgson could face up to seven years in state prison. As a part of his release conditions, the court has ordered that Hodgson should not possess any firearms, is not allowed to leave the State of California, and must attend at least three alcohol counseling meetings per week. District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman remarked on the case, stating, "No one is above the law, regardless of their position or badge," a sentiment that emphasizes accountability within law enforcement agencies. Hodgson's next court date is scheduled for July 17, according to the District Attorney's office.
