Last night in the Security-Widefield area of unincorporated El Paso County, an officer-involved shooting left one suspect dead following a reported disturbance involving a firearm. The authorities received a call at approximately 11:32 p.m. regarding an incident in the 6500 block of Tranters Creek Way, according to a news release on the El Paso County Sheriff's Office website.

Deputies swiftly responded to the scene after a neighbor, fearing that a gun might be involved, reported the commotion. On arriving, they found a firearm on the driveway and made contact with an adult man and woman at the residence. The situation escalated when the man allegedly became physically aggressive while deputies were attempting to detain him, managing to gain control of a deputy's taser and deploying it.

In the struggle that followed, at least two deputies fired at least one round each, as detailed in the Sheriff's Office statement. The suspect was struck by gunfire, and despite immediate medical care provided by the deputies and later by Security Fire personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Two deputies incurred minor injuries during the incident and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Following standard procedure, the deputies involved are now on paid leave. The Colorado Springs Police Department is investigating, and the situation is being thoroughly examined. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
