Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has officially inaugurated four new rest stops across Union and Van Wert counties, a part of a larger project aimed at elevating the traveler's journey throughout the state. These new facilities, unveiled at ribbon-cutting ceremonies, are designed not only to offer respite but also to immerse visitors in the essence of Ohio. According to a statement obtained by the Office of the Governor, the goal is to provide "a safe, clean space for visitors" and to potentially inspire them to "explore even more."
The project, which launched today, represents an eight-year effort by Gov. DeWine's administration to ensure the safety and satisfaction of those passing through Ohio. Visitors can now experience native Ohio plants, walk their dogs on dedicated trails, relax in a chair with a view, or take a short walk along a Storybook Trail accompanied by a Dolly Parton Imagination Library book.
The initiative, as highlighted by the First Lady Fran DeWine and local leaders, showcases nearby attractions such as the lush Grand Lake St. Marys State Park and the historical Piatt Castle. With this, the administration aims to capture the hearts of travelers and encourage them to explore further what Ohio has to offer. One of the reimagined stops features prominently on U.S. 33 westbound in Union County, near Marysville, functioning as more than just a place to pause, but as a gateway to the region's treasures.
