Oklahoma City is gearing up for a spirited Independence Day celebration this Friday, July 4, and along with the festivities comes a special holiday schedule for city services. According to information released by the City of Oklahoma City, essential services like trash, recycling, and bulky waste collection will operate as usual. Residents looking to get around the city will find free fares on RAPID, OKC Streetcar, buses and OKC PLUS. The buses and OKC PLUS will run on weekend schedule, while the OKC Streetcar extends its services until 2 a.m.
For those planning their travel arrangements, RAPID is set to run with a 30-minute frequency, available from early morning at 7 a.m. through to the evening at 7 p.m. However, take note that some facilities will not be available, as city offices, the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center, Animal Welfare, and the Municipal Court will all be closed for the holiday. Those needing to handle court-related matters can still make payments online at the city's official website, where additional details for posting bonds are also provided.
Public recreation and community spaces have a mixed schedule: While all outdoor parks are accessible from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., indoor facilities like OKC Parks recreation centers, family aquatic centers, community centers, gyms, and senior centers are taking a day off. Nature enthusiasts can still enjoy the Martin Park Nature Center's outdoor grounds, which remain open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., even though the visitor center itself will be closed. The same goes for Will Rogers Gardens Exhibition Center and Ed Lycan Conservatory—while their outdoor grounds welcome visitors from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., the indoor facilities will not be operating.
For those seeking assistance or have inquiries regarding transit services during the holiday, EMBARK’s Transit Center Customer Service and the 235-RIDE Call Center are both taking a break. But the 235-PLUS Call Center will remain open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to attend to calls.
