In response to the severe flooding that continues to wreak havoc across Central Texas, the Oklahoma Task Force 1 (OKTF-1) has shifted its search and rescue operations to Kerrville, TX, an area grappling with significant impacts from the event. Hailing from Oklahoma City, the team has been redeployed by the Water Group Supervisor to intensify efforts in locating the individuals who've now swelled in number to over 160 unaccounted for. Alongside their counterparts from Tulsa, with the addition of two K9 units, they face a demanding task; their new grounds encompass roughly 85 miles of river to be scoured, a distance laden with debris and further complicated by the waterway's meandering nature.
An update from OKTF-1, shared on the Oklahoma City Fire Department's social media, reveals that the combined effort with Tulsa's search teams has been well underway along crippled riverbanks. Despite the operation surfacing as a physical and mental crucible, the search units are employing advanced technologies to navigate such treacherous terrain. While assisting in search efforts, one might easily take for granted the relentless work the K9 handlers are doing, as they labor side by side with other local responders and search teams.
The local response, spurred by the catastrophic floods, has engendered a heartfelt outpouring of appreciation from the Texan community. As noted in a statement from OKTF-1, both Oklahoma-based teams receive sustained encouragement and backing from their home state.
