The Oregon Humane Society will reduce adoption fees by 50 percent for all adult pets aged 6 months and older from July 18 through July 20. The offer applies at both the Portland and Salem campuses. According to KGW, the initiative is in response to increased shelter populations during the summer months.

Each adopted pet will receive a spay or neuter surgery, updated vaccinations, a microchip, and a free veterinary exam at OHS’ Community Veterinary Hospital in Portland or select VCA clinics in Salem, as reported by KOIN. There is a current need for adopters of adult cats in Salem and large dogs in Portland. Pets available include Penni and Charlie Brown, a bonded pair of 2-year-old dogs in Portland, and Pippen, a 2-year-old cat in Salem who recently completed medical treatment. Some pets, including Penni and Charlie Brown, are available for trial adoption through the Diamond in the Ruff program, which provides support and training during a two-week trial period, as mentioned by KGW.

"For every pet who leaves one of our shelters with a loving family, a kennel is freed up so we can help the next animal in need," said Eleena Fikhman, Director of Adoptions, in an interview with Z100 Portland. "Plus, there are so many advantages to adopting an adult cat or dog. They have so much love to give and make wonderful companions," she added. The Oregon Humane Society's Portland and Salem campuses will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for those interested in adoption.
