The push for tech proficiency within the public sector has taken a noteworthy leap forward in Oregon as the State Chief Information Officer, Terrence Woods, announces a new agreement to enhance state employees' understanding of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) technologies. Partnering with InnovateUS, a renowned training provider, Oregon’s Enterprise Information Services (EIS) aims to integrate no-cost, specialized courses tailored for public servants that will bridge knowledge gaps in the evolving field of AI.
According to a press release from the Oregon Department of Administrative Services, these courses will incorporate real-world scenarios to facilitate practical learning. This approach seeks to empower Oregon's workforce, allowing them to deploy GenAI capabilities with the necessary care and efficiency to effectively serve the state's populace. Woods stated, “Generative AI is vastly developing, and this training aligns with the work of the State Government Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council that recognized the future of government depends first and foremost on people, supported by technology”. The initiative indicates Oregon’s inclination to nurture a skilled workforce that judiciously wields contemporary tech tools in governance.
By embarking on this training venture, state agencies are encouraged to build upon their teams’ expertise to leverage GenAI in optimizing their functions, striking a balance between technological advancement and diligent stewardship of civic resources.
