Robin Severance Lopez, estranged from suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez, remains in the grasp of the judicial system, unable to untangle herself from the web of allegations surrounding an illegal gambling operation. Her attempt to secure freedom hit another snag during a recent bond hearing, as reported by WESH. The court required her to prove that the final $20,000 of her bond money was not contaminated by criminal activity. Lopez, who strived to help her husband, has found herself ensnared as a co-defendant; her lawyer, Michelle Yard, conveyed her client's shock at the court's decision after believing they had provided ample evidence of the legitimacy of her funds.
In a courtroom drama that lasted nearly four hours yesterday, Lopez was kept behind bars after the judge expressed concerns about the source of $20,000, which was essential for the approval of her $400,000 bond. With the state already scrutinizing her finances, Robin Lopez presented a figure of $123,000 in the bank and a monthly income derived from a part-time job, according to her attorney. Still, her arrest came with the discovery of two bank slips totaling almost $180,000, deposited shortly after Marcos Lopez was taken into custody. Robin, once part of the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, now faces allegations of her role in the illicit gambling ring. According to FOX 35 Orlando, Assistant State Attorney Colleen Monroe accused Robin of facilitating the movement of funds linked to the operation. This assertion is currently being tested for consistency in court.
As Robin Lopez awaits another chance to present her case, the conditions of her potential release include strict measures: surrendering her passport, wearing a GPS monitor, and maintaining no contact with Marcos Lopez.
