Although the building was vacant and no injuries have been reported, the collapse forced the evacuation of nearby residents, notably those dwelling at 55 Webster St. Officials have not yet pinpointed the cause of the collapse, but it's clear that the integrity of the four-bedroom, multi-family home was compromised during the renovation process. According to a report by NBC Boston, the neighborhood was disrupted as Webster Street between Orleans and Cottage Streets remains closed due to ongoing cleanup efforts.
In response to the incident, local authorities swiftly brought the scene under control, allowing residents to return to their homes once the surrounding area had been deemed secure. The Boston Fire Department's prompt response averted what could have been a far graver situation, underscoring the city's readiness to manage such urban emergencies.
