The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, alongside teams dedicated to addressing homelessness and loss prevention personnel, conducted a retail theft operation at various stores in the city of Perris on July 24, according to their official release. The aim was to proactively reduce retail theft while ensuring public safety in shopping areas. During the sting, the Perris Sheriff’s Station Special Enforcement Team and related units made multiple arrests.

Sergeant Kevin Mahoney reported the collaborative effort, which included the Perris Sheriff’s Station Special Enforcement Team, Robbery Burglary Suppression Team, and Perris and County Homeless Outreach Teams. The operation led to the capture of several individuals caught in the act of shoplifting. The suspects included Michael Stratton and Tyana Roger, both repeat offenders, Cesar Ramirez-Ibarria, Jesus Escobedo, and Cesar Perez-Dominguez, implicated in conspiracy, and Alonzo Lucas, who was charged with grand theft.

Mahoney emphasized the continuous commitment of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office and the city to tackle theft-related offenses that have adverse effects on Perris businesses and the larger community. These operations are also a practical approach to handling recurrent offenders and aim to discourage organized retail crime.

The arrests are indicative of a broader strategy involving legislation like Proposition 36, which supports retail theft crackdowns. The operation stresses the importance of legal actions against those who undermine the economic fabric of the community through retail theft. These initiatives are key in countering organized retail crime while working within the law to achieve a balance between justice, accountability, and potential rehabilitation.

The Perris Special Enforcement Team and Robbery Burglary Suppression Team will continue their efforts to maintain safety, reassuring residents and visitors they can shop without concern in Perris. The Sheriff's office encourages anyone with further information about the retail theft incidents to contact Deputy Sanchez at the Perris Sheriff’s Station.
