The streets and public spaces of Colorado Springs are set to become even cleaner, thanks to a generous donation from Phil Long Dealerships. A $10,000 check was handed over to the city's Keep It Clean COS initiative in a ceremony that highlighted community and corporate partnership. The campaign, which aims to remove trash from public spaces, has been a collaborative effort between City departments, community partners, and residents, emphasizing a shared responsibility for maintaining the city’s cleanliness.
During the ceremonial check presentation at the Mayor’s Office, Mayor Yemi Mobolade, alongside Phil Long Dealerships’ President and CEO Kevin Shaughnessy, recognized the donation that will help to significantly leverage the Keep It Clean COS initiative. "We are deeply grateful to Phil Long Dealerships for stepping up again with this incredible contribution," Mayor Mobolade said, as per the City of Colorado Springs. He emphasized that the dealership's act of generosity was more than just financial support; it reflected a bond of pride and care within the community. The funds are earmarked to bolster public engagement, organize cleanup events, and ensure the distribution of community litter kits.
Phil Long Dealerships, with a history stretching back to 1945, has long been a fixture in the Colorado Springs community, not just in automotive excellence but also through its philanthropic endeavors. In the previous year, the dealership had donated nearly $14,000 to the city’s 1,000 Neighborhood Gatherings initiative, and this year’s donation is also part of their annual giveback campaign, named "Thanks, Jay," in honor of their late President and CEO Jay Cimino, according to City of Colorado Springs.
The campaign aligns with the philanthropic spirit of Cimino, who passed away in February 2024. His legacy continues to be the driving force behind the dealership’s community efforts. Phil Long Dealerships’ current CEO, Kevin Shaughnessy, acknowledged this during the check presentation, "Jay dedicated his life to connecting others to the resources they need to be their best. We are proud to carry on that legacy," he explained, as obtained by the City of Colorado Springs. The dealership commits to donating for every vehicle sold in April, the month of Cimino’s birthday, to several community-focused organizations and projects.
