The National Weather Service (NWS) in Philadelphia is predicting a mixed bag of weather in the upcoming days for the region. According to their latest update, today will see patchy fog in the morning before it gives way to mostly sunny skies and a high of around 86 degrees. Light winds are expected to pick up in the afternoon, setting the stage for a mainly clear night with lows dropping to around 68 degrees.
As the week progresses, the NWS is forecasting warmer temperatures with Thursday's sunny skies leading to a high near 89. However, a coastal flood advisory beckons trouble from 11 PM this evening to 4 AM EDT tomorrow, where vulnerable roads may feel the brunt of the impact, and traveling becomes a precarious affair.
Amid these sunny forecasts, NWS Philadelphia cautions that the later part of the week may introduce a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Specifically, they forecast a 20% chance of precipitation on Friday afternoon, with temperatures potentially climbing near the 96-degree mark. Friday night could see these chances increase to 30%, with potential showers and thunderstorms mainly between 8 pm and 2 am.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the NWS notes a 40-60% chance of showers and thunderstorms from Saturday to Sunday night. Saturday's daytime will be partly sunny with a high near 91, while Sunday could see showers likely and a possible thunderstorm after 2 pm. The forecasted high is near 86 degrees. "At this level, flooding begins on the most vulnerable roads along tidal waterways," warns the NWS advisory, indicating possible road closures in affected areas.
The coastal flood advisory remains firmly in place, particularly impacting low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways across various counties in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. One foot of inundation above ground level is expected, with minor flooding likely in the Delaware River at Philadelphia and Burlington. Residents in these areas are advised to prepare for potential floods and adhere to safety guidelines, including avoiding closed roads and heeding local instructions.
