Philadelphia Police are actively seeking the public's assistance in the apprehension of two suspects tied to a violent weekend outbreak. On Saturday, July 26, a double homicide accompanied by a quadruple shooting shook the 39th District, specifically the 1900 block of W. Hunting Park Avenue. Tragically, the gunfire struck multiple individuals, including a seven-year-old girl.
The shooting, which occurred around 8:22 p.m., left two adult males fatally wounded. Nyfik Johnson, 29, of Philadelphia, suffered from numerous gunshot wounds to his body and head and was declared deceased after being transported to Temple Hospital. Quron Ross-Weems also sustained a deadly gunshot wound to the head and was later pronounced dead at the same hospital. Two other victims—a 26-year-old Black female with an injury to her left arm, and a seven-year-old Black female with a graze wound to her scalp—were taken to Einstein Hospital by private vehicle and have been reported to be in stable condition, according to a statement released by the Philadelphia Police Department.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit has identified two suspects with warrants now issued for their arrests. The department has cautioned the public not to approach these individuals, labeling them as armed and dangerous. The suspects are as follows: Lawrence Coleman, 25, described as a 5'9" tall Black male weighing 150 lbs., and Virgil Williams, a 29-year-old Black male standing 6'4" tall and weighing 210 lbs., both with black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone who may have information on the location of Lawrence Coleman or Virgil Williams is urged to immediately call 911. In a bid to encourage assistance from the public, authorities have announced that a reward—$20,000 is available for information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case. The imperative need to bring the suspects to justice echoes through the city streets, as the community grapples with the reconciliation of such needless violence.
