Philadelphia authorities are diligently searching for two men accused of following, assaulting, and robbing a 57-year-old man after he disembarked from a SEPTA bus. This incident took place in the Point Breeze neighborhood early on the morning of June 13th, according to 6ABC. The suspects allegedly sat behind the victim on the Route 17 bus and initiated their attack once the man exited the vehicle.
The assault occurred near the intersection of 19th and Dickenson streets around 1 a.m. Surveillance footage from the bus, which officials later released on social media, depicts two individuals—one with dreadlocks, the other with long curly hair—actively following the victim off the bus to later assault him and steal his belongings. In response to the event, Philadelphia police are now asking any witnesses or individuals with information to come forward and offer assistance, as reported by NBC Philadelphia.
The crime prompted an appeal for public assistance in identifying the assailants who, having premeditated the attack, waited until the victim signaled his intent to get off before preparing to follow him. Once the man alighted from the bus, the suspects commenced striking him multiple times before fleeing with his personal effects. The Philadelphia Police Department's South Detective Division at 215-686-3013 or their tip line at 215-686-TIPS are now the main points of contact for any leads, as clarified by KYW Newsradio.
The release of the video is part of an ongoing effort by police to effectively catch the individuals responsible for the assault and robbery of the unnamed 57-year-old man. Community members with any knowledge pertaining to identifying the suspects are encouraged to call the dedicated tip line, thereby possibly aiding in the resolution of this violent encounter that has stirred concern among Point Breeze residents and SEPTA commuters alike.
