Placer County has launched the Blue Envelope Program to support interactions between law enforcement officers and members of the neurodiverse community. The program provides materials such as blue envelopes, lanyards, wristbands, and seat belt covers marked with the program’s logo, which serve as visual cues for officers. The initiative is intended for individuals with autism and other cognitive or developmental conditions, as reported by the Placer County Sheriff's Office.
The Placer County Sheriff's Office announced on social media that since April, nearly 500 Blue Envelope packets have been distributed to community members. The program is voluntary, requiring no registration or tracking. Participants may choose to carry or display the logoed items during interactions with law enforcement.
The Blue Envelope Program, a partnership among law enforcement agencies in Placer County, provides resources to support interactions with the neurodiverse community, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office on their Facebook page. Information about the program and pickup locations for Blue Envelope materials is available at placer.ca.gov/BlueEnvelope.
