Mark your calendars, Plymouth parents and fun-seekers, because the city is rolling out the red carpet for its younger residents with the annual Kids Fest event, taking the stage (and lawn) at the Hilde Performance Center, 3500 Plymouth Blvd, on Thursday, Aug. 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. According to a recent bulletin by the City of Plymouth, this family-centric bash promises an evening of free entertainment, educational play, and some rockin' tunes that aim to delight both the knee-high crowd and their adult companions, with food and drinks up for grabs courtesy of local food trucks.
It's not just your typical carnival fare lining the grounds here; this year's Kids Fest has a noticeable bent towards the brainy with a STEAM Zone dedicated to blending fun and learning in the realms of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math, promising kids a hands-on experience that might just spark a future career path. The festive frolic will also feature a myriad of balloon artistry, face painting endeavors, bounce houses, and inflatables – because what's a kid's party without a bouncing good time, right?
Tunes will be served fresh and lively by Riffin’ Griffin, a Minneapolis-based rock band that's no stranger to shrill cheers and clapping hands; their family-friendly riffs and interactive stage antics are set to hold court on the Hilde main stage with performances scheduled at 5:15 p.m. and again at 6:45 p.m., as per the event's entertainment roster. The group, heralded for their Weezer-esque energy and Muse-like sound, is a surefire bet for sparking off some pint-sized moshing (of the very G-rated variety).
A swirl of other activities will swirls throughout the event, with vendor booths and games dotting the venue, and Dazzlin’ Dave, a yo-yo wizard with national acclaim, will be both hitting the stage and mingling with attendees; you can catch his yo-yo mastery at 5:30 p.m. and again for a feature show on the Hilde small stage at 6:30 p.m., where attendees will experience the spinning spectacle of a seasoned yo-yo maestro, according to the City of Plymouth announcement.
With local sponsorship from outfits like All Energy Solar and Kyle Vitense State Farm, this communal assembly underscores Plymouth’s focus on community engagement and strengthening family connections. In the event the sky decides to get teary, residents can call the weather line at 763-509-5205 for status updates.
