Residents of Pu‘ukapu Homesteads on Hawai‘i Island are set to see an expansion of their telecommunications infrastructure, as Hawaiian Telcom has announced upgrade work beginning last Friday, with the aim to continue through September 30. The upgrade work, which is expected to improve broadband access in the area, will occur during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday, with an exception for holidays, the company stated on the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands website.

During this period, Hawaiian Telcom crews, numbering approximately six employees at a given time, will be visible on site, operating Telsta bucket trucks. These workers will don company uniforms and drive vehicles clearly marked with the Hawaiian Telcom logo. The upgrade process entails an advisory for motorists to keep an eye out for traffic controls and to carefully observe any posted signs, particularly following any necessary detours to quickly navigate around the construction zones.

For those living in or passing through the area, extra attention and patience are advised. Hawaiian Telcom has made it clear that illegally parked vehicles may pose an obstacle to the upgrade work and will be towed at the owner's expense, should it become necessary. "Motorists are advised to proceed with caution through the construction area," a spokesman from Hawaiian Telcom relayed to the community in an effort to minimize disruption and ensure safety, as detailed by the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.

The importance of the upgrade is not to be understated; it promises to bolster internet access for Pu‘ukapu residents, a key factor in today's digital age. Hawaiian Telcom has appointed a contractor contact person, Bo Waite, who can be reached at (808) 557-8051 or via email at [email protected] for those seeking further information or having specific concerns.
