A fire broke out on the third floor of a 10-story apartment building at 1830 Wilikina Drive in Wahiawa last Saturday. The emergency call was made at 10:11 a.m., and crews arrived at 10:18 a.m. According to the Honolulu Fire Department, 12 units and 43 personnel were dispatched to respond to the fire. The building did not have an automatic sprinkler system.
Firefighters responded to a growing fire coming from a third-floor unit. Residents from nearby apartments attempted to use fire extinguishers but had to evacuate. Honolulu Fire Department crews evacuated people from the third and fourth floors while working to contain the fire.
The Honolulu Fire Department contained a fire in a residential high-rise by 10:38 a.m. and fully extinguished it by 11:50 a.m. The fire did not spread to nearby units. An investigation is underway to determine the cause and assess the damage. Results will be released when the report is complete.
