For those planning an evening drive around Raleigh's Hillsborough Street and Beryl Road this week, expect to reroute your journey. The N.C. Department of Transportation has announced that overnight closures will be in place to accommodate bridge work near Interstate 440. Specifically, closures will affect Beryl Road beginning 11 p.m. on July 21 and 22, according to an NCDOT press release. Those traveling in the area will need to take detours through Method Road and Blue Ridge Road to navigate the construction.
Further interruptions will occur on eastbound Hillsborough Street, with closures set from 11 p.m. July 21 until 24, redirecting traffic to westbound I-440, Western Boulevard, and back onto Hillsborough Street via I-440 East. The westbound lanes are not getting off easy either: come 10 p.m. on July 23 and 24, detours will send vehicles swirling to I-440 East, Wade Avenue, and looping back on I-440 West to Hillsborough Street. For the nocturnal commuters, traffic flow should return to normal by 5 a.m. following each closure – assuming the weather plays nice.
