A gas leak in the Slidell area prompted evacuations and road closures last Friday, impacting residents and disrupting local traffic. According to FOX 8 Live, St. Tammany fire protection responders arrived on North Pine Street, where up to eight homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The leak, initially reported by an Atmos employee during a routine house check, led to the closure of North Pine Street at intersecting roads including Yaupon Street, Gause, and Highway 190 West.

Emergency crews from multiple fire departments were deployed to the scene, with excavators being used in efforts to locate the source of the leak. It is believed the problem could involve the sewer system or inner workings of one of the evacuated homes, as St. Tammany Fire Protection District #1 representatives told WGNO. While the initial number of evacuated homes was reported to be between six and seven, that number was later updated to eight.

The situation was brought under control later the same day, with the leak being effectively shut off. This allowed for the reopening of N. Pine Street to traffic, as noted by WDSU. Officials have not provided a definitive cause for the leak at this time.
