A Rochester Hills mother and her boyfriend are facing charges of first-degree child abuse after the woman's 4-year-old daughter was brought to a hospital with severe injuries. As reported by The Detroit News, Kimberly Ann McGarry, 26, and Cleyde Murillo, 29, could face life in prison if convicted of the charges stemming from an incident where the child sustained a broken arm and leg.

Initially, McGarry told doctors that her daughter's injuries were the result of a fall down some stairs; however, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office informed authorities that her story was inconsistent and the injuries may have occurred much earlier than claimed, according to information from FOX 2 Detroit. A later confession revealed the injuries actually happened on November 15, 2024, but the child was not brought to the hospital until over a month later, which may have caused permanent damage.

U.S. Marshals arrested McGarry near Grand Rapids, and Murillo was apprehended in Muskegon County while he was visiting his own daughter under supervision; the 4-year-old victim and McGarry's two other children are now under the care of their biological father. "There can be no excuse and no tolerance for anyone that abuses a child," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard stated, as noted by Audacy.

McGarry's bond was set at $150,000 with a 10% provision, while Murillo received a $750,000 bond, also with a 10% provision; their attorneys have expressed readiness to contest the charges in court, with Murillo's lawyer, Max Dubin, saying, "We look forward to our day in court and presenting our case," as mentioned by The Detroit News. McGarry and Murillo are scheduled for their next hearings in the 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills on August 7 and August 13, respectively.
