A recent joint investigation conducted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has led to the apprehension of a 70-year-old Rockwood man following a fatal shooting incident. On Sunday night, law enforcement was dispatched to a residence located on the 200 block of George Anna Drive in response to reports of gunfire.
The first officers to arrive at the scene discovered 37-year-old Michael Kerley with gunshot wounds. Despite receiving immediate medical attention from Emergency Medical Services, Kerley was pronounced dead at the location. WVLT reported that upon examination of the evidence, TBI agents determined Devin Schillinger, 70, was the culprit behind the act.
In an official press release reported by WBIR, the TBI stated that Schillinger was arrested on Sunday night and charged with first-degree murder, after which he was booked into the Cumberland County Jail. His bond was set at an amount of $1 million.
The request for TBI's assistance in the investigation came from Thirteenth Judicial District Attorney General Bryant Dunaway. WATE noted that alongside local deputies, the TBI played a crucial role in piecing together the events that led to Kerley's death, which ultimately led to Schillinger's arrest. As the case develops, Schillinger now faces the weight of a first-degree murder charge in connection with the shooting death.
